Josh Thornton is a passionate advocate for emergency preparedness, and He is now the Emergency Preparedness Director at the Red Cross in Atlanta, Georgia. Josh was born and raised in the small town of Monroe, Louisiana, and he graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a degree in Emergency Management. After college, and he joined the U.S. Navy and served for eight years as a Search and Rescue Swimmer. During his time in the Navy, Josh worked on a deep passion for emergency preparedness, and he also became a certified Emergency Medical Technician. After leaving the Navy, Josh decided to pursue a career in emergency preparedness, and he was hired by the Red Cross in Atlanta and was the Emergency Preparedness Director for the past four years, and in this role, and He is accountable for educating the public about the importance of being prepared for natural disasters, like hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods, also as man made disasters like terrorism. Josh believes that with correct training, knowledge, and planning, people can be better prepared for any kind of emergency, and he is a certified instructor for the Red Cross and teaches classes on emergency preparedness, first aid, and CPR, and he also coordinates drills and simulations to ensure staff and volunteers are ready.
